The Pound Gallery will exhibit new paintings by Tanya Roesijadi in the main gallery as well as an installation by Randy Wood in the Gallery's corridor. Tanya Roesijadi's captivating paintings portray an imaginary creature in various settings. The creature, named Purrponius, travels into scenes inspired by Roesijadi's imagination, media hysteria and sketches from life. Purrponius, reflective of the dual nature of humanity, is at once young and innocent and dasterdly sinister. Aside from Purponius, Roesijadi's paintings convey a strong feeling of time and space by using the creature's body to juxtapose vast space in its surroundings and by using its forked tongue to move deeper into space. The physicality of the paint (the marks, its thickness and texture) capture the movement of the scene in mid-action. Tanya won best of show in the Pound Gallery's Second Annual Open Call last July.

Randy Wood will be reshaping the Pound Gallery corridor with his installation based on his comic book series, Kitties!!!, which he self publishes four times a year. The material being used will range from ink, oil paints, works on paper, soft sculpture and cloth. Randy Wood has exhibited his small paintings and ink on paper in many Pound Gallery Group Exhibits and has won prizesÝ in juried competitions with us from various outside jurors. We are looking forward to seeing what he will conjure up in our corridor.
