LAURA
JEAN CRONIN
is Director and Co-founder
of The Pound Gallery. She received her BFA in Printmaking from the University
of Washington in 1990. After graduating she worked on a number of theater
productions and independent films as Art Director (e.g. Willy Wonka
and the Chocolate Factory, 1991) and Production Designer (e.g. Roll
Out, 1992). During this time she also founded the Photocloset, a community
black and white darkroom. For Cronin filmmaking was a natural progression
from painting, printmaking and photography. She wrote, directed, produced
and edited John Gill, 1999, a quirky film about an average manís
struggle with identity and masculinity. Cronin is soon to release her
second short film, Block Party, a humorous and touching film, which
was shot during Capitol Hillís Block Party, about two women putting on
their first big event. She believes whole-heartedly that her interdisciplinary
work in painting, photography, printmaking, writing and filmmaking is
a personal and professional asset, rather than a defect. All of her creative
endeavors are connected by the impulse to experience fully the life that
is given to us, and to examine and critique the life that we as a species
construct. Cronin is currently finishing her PhD in film Studies at the
University of Washington.
PENNY
JEROME
has been a professional photographer for over twenty years. She began
her career working for the University of Idaho in the photo department
and on the college newspaper, The Argonaut. In 1989 she moved to Seattle
where she now works for a professional photo lab. Penny has been experimenting
with alternative processes using her collection of old and/or toy cameras
and she is currently focusing on printmaking. Penny is also the curator
of galleryphotographica.com, an internet gallery that is dedicated to
photograghy.
KATRINA
SANTORE grew up in Maine and studied photography and ceramics
at Bennington College. She has been a member of the Photocloset for over
three years, and a Pound Gallery member for one and a half years. Katrina
has had work in 3 annual Photocloset shows and 2 Pound Gallery member
shows (including this year's show). Last October she participated in the
Art Detour open studio tour, and plans to do so again this year. Currently
Katrina has a solo show in the Honey Bear Bakery, underneath the Elliott
Bay Book Store in Pioneer Square, which will be up from July 30th through
August 28th.
