NOIR
High drama, cynical undertones, and smoky settings; “Noir” creates an
evocative story line and fantastical avenue through which the viewer is able
to explore the inner workings of their imagination.
Inspired by the mystery of the night and the unknown, with the suggestion of
identity struggle, this series foreshadows a dark deed. “Noir” in many ways
parallels the female identity theme-work highlighted in the 1960’s by
artist/photographer Cindy Sherman in her body of work entitled “Film
Stills.”
“Noir” exposes the human desire for tension and fright. With highly dramatic
and cynical scenes this series is reminiscent of the motion picture Film
Noir movement of the 1940’s and 1950’s. I chose to shoot many of the images
using macro aesthetics to force the viewer to add personal details from
their past to reach a unique conclusion. “Noir” leaves the viewer wanting a
bit more….
